Dear friends and family,
My name is David Smeberg and one thing that I am not ashamed of is that I am a follower of Jesus Christ. Although I was raised in a Christian household and had accepted Jesus into my heart from early on, it was not until about two years ago when I finally made the decision to live solely for Him. I’m currently a homeschooled senior in high school who plans on majoring in biomedical science upon graduation with intent on pursing a career in the medical field. I have the privilege of being part of Christian Medical and Dental Association, an organization of Christian healthcare practitioners who hold to a biblically based worldview. This organization has allowed me to grow spiritually closer with the Lord and has equipped me with tools necessary to stand firm as a future medical practitioner in society against the sinful ideologies of this world. Each year, CMDA hosts an annual Fall Banquet, and about three weeks ago, they hosted their 50th anniversary celebration of CMDA. This year’s speaker was Dr. Dave Stevens, a physician who spent most of his life on the mission field in Rwanda. Dr. Stevens was in Rwanda during the Genocide of 1994, and I’ll never forget how he described his experience. His account of his own time in Rwanda and how the people there are still feeling the devastation 30 years later moved my heart tremendously, and when I encountered the opportunity to go to Rwanda with the World Race, I felt as though it was nothing less than a sign from God. After much prayer, I submitted my application and completed an interview shortly thereafter. When I first broke the news to my mother, she was fearful at first, knowing the current state of Rwanda and the amount of civil unrest there is, but after much prayer, she agreed to partner alongside me in prayer and support. Please partner alongside me as I go through this journey, whether that be through financial support, prayer, or intercession. I would not be able to do this without you, and thank you so very much.

David, I am so excited to hear about your passion for missions- these experiences have been life changing for me. Two books that I found inspirational in my journey to engage internationally were : “Radical” by David Platt, and “The Hole in our Gospel”, by Richard Stearnes. I have not read “Jesus MD” but have read about Dr Stevens in another book entitled “ Miacle at Tenwek”….his life story is indeed very inspiring! I’d be happy to share with you more about my mission experiences at any time. God bless you as you begin to prepare…looking forward to seeing what God has in store for you!
